ASUW Student Senate: Session XXXI

Become a Senator

You may register to become a Senator at any point in the year and all meetings are open to members of the public seeking to learn more about the membership process. Any and all students at UW may apply using their UW NetID.

Please read this page carefully and fill out the form accurately. When selecting your preferred committees, do not mark Senate Leadership or ASUW President. If you have any questions, email asuwssmc@uw.edu or ask us at the next Senate meeting. For each Tuesday meeting, Senators will be activated on the previous Friday at noon.

If you’re applying as an individual, you will need to:

  • Select “Signature Seat” for your membership claim and complete the rest of the form with accurate information.
  • Have five (5) students become constituents on the Pick a Senator page–this is who you will represent. You have one month to reach five signatures before your registration is cancelled.
  • Note: if your application is cancelled, you may re-apply at any point, but the same rules apply.

If you’re affiliated with an RSO or other organization/entity, you will need to:

  • Select “Designated Senator” under membership claim and enter the name of your RSO before completing the rest of the form – unless you have a “Protected Seat” listed in the dropdown menu.
  • Send an email from an official organizational contact to validate the seat. You have two weeks to confirm this before your registration is cancelled.
  • Note: if your application is cancelled, you may re-apply at any point, but the same rules apply.

If you have any questions, feel free to send an email to asuwssmc@uw.edu or shoot us a DM on Instagram @asuwstudentsenate. We look forward to seeing you in Senate!

Senate meetings are from 5-7 PM every Tuesday in HUB 250 and on Microsoft Teams.
