A Resolution in Support of the Use of Diplomacy, Peaceful Mediation, and Consideration for the Interests of the International Community in order to Resolve International Conflict.

WHEREAS the University of Washington is an integral part of the Seattle Community in which the majority of voters oppose the use of military action against Iraq, and;

WHEREAS there is no clear consensus among the American people in support of preemptive military action, and;

WHEREAS the international community does not support unilateral American military action, and;

WHEREAS unilateral military action would polarize the international community, and;

WHEREAS there is concern internationally and domestically that military action leads to the escalation of international tension and violations of human rights, and;

WHEREAS we students of the University of Washington are members of the international community, and;

WHEREAS we as human beings have the duty and the capability to prevent the loss of many innocent lives Worldwide;

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON:

THAT the students of the University of Washington support the resolution of international conflict through diplomacy, peaceful mediation, and consideration for the interests of the international community.
