A resolution in support of a ban of partial birth abortions

WHEREAS the partial-birth abortion technique is graphically described and known in the medical community as dilation and extraction (D & X), and

WHEREAS the American Medical Association (AMA) could not find any identified circumstance in which the procedure was the only safe and effective abortion method, and

WHEREAS the most partial-birth abortions are performed on healthy mothers with healthy babies and there is no obstetrical situation that requires the willful destruction of a partially delivered baby to protect the life, health or future of a woman, and

WHEREAS states do not have mandatory and uniform abortion reporting requirements, there is no way to know for certain how many partial-birth abortions are performed each year, and

WHEREAS the procedures of partial birth abortion are inhumane cruel acts of crime done onto the innocent and defenseless unborn children, and

WHEREAS the abortionist operating this procedure clearly violate 1995 restatement of the oath of hyppocrates.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON:

THAT the ASUW does condemn the practice of partial birth abortion, and

THAT the ASUW does support further regulation to make statistics available of addtional abortion practices, and

THAT the ASUW does support federal law prohibiting the destruction of life through the use of the technique known as D & X, and

THAT the ASUW does support federal law providing for the punishment of those physicians who choose to violate their sworn hyppocratic oath.
