An Act to Add a Stance on Credit Cards to the Legislative Agenda

WHEREAS recently proposed legislation in our state legislature has proposed to limit the issuing of credit cards 'to persons under the age of tweny-one,'* and

WHEREAS said legislation would mandate that persons under the age of 21 would have to obtain the co-signature of a parent or guardian in order to apply for a credit card in addition to creating further requirements to be met, and

WHEREAS students need the opportunity to build their credit history, and

WHEREAS the age of 18 is considered to be the age of adulthood

BE IT RECOMMENDED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON STUDENT SENATE:

THAT the legislative agenda be amended to include the following language within the second tier 'The ASUW opposes any legislation which would limit students' financial independence.'
