A Bill To Change The Method Of Appointing Asuw Representatives To The Board Of Student Publications

WHEREAS, the Board of Student Publications is the body that oversees the actions of the campus newspaper, The Daily, and

WHEREAS, the current method of appointing representatives does not ensure that the body representing official student opinion is expressed and consulted on the decisions of the Board of Student Publications, and

WHERAS, having people selected by and reporting to the Senate will help increase the representation of student opinion on the governing board of The Daily,

BE IT RECOMMENDED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON STUDENT SENATE:

THAT, the power to appoint the two ASUW representatives to the Board of Student Publications be delegated from the ASUW Vice President and Board of Directors to the ASUW Student Senate, and

THAT, these representatives shall give a report, either in person or in writing, to the Student Senate no less than once every two weeks, and

THAT, the Student Senate requests that The Daily Editorial Board send a non-voting member of it's editorial staff to attend Senate to announce opportunities to meet with the Daily, to include but not be limited to Board of Student Publications Meetings, Editorial Board Meetings, Staff Meetings, etc.; and that this staff member shall relay the feedback collected from the members of the Student Senate to The Daily Editorial Board.
