Resolution opposing actions of the Administration punishing TAs

WHEREAS, the University of Washington Administration has stated that they will impose sanctions against Teaching Assistants if TAs strike and that such a strike 'would result in the loss of pay for work not performed and could result in the fofeiture of tuition waivers and benefits, and termination of ... appointments' (Daily, Oct 23, 2001), and;

WHEREAS, the Associated Students of the University of Washington supports the right for TAs and RAs to collectively bargain and to unionize (R 6-33, May 22, 2000), and;

WHEREAS, GSEAC/UAW is considered a bona fide union under the National Labor Relations (Wagner) Act of 1935, as amended, and some of the actions stated by the UW Administration that they would undertake would violate that Act.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON:

THAT, the students of the University of Washington oppose termination of job and/or permanent punishing reprecussions the UW Administration may undertake against TAs if TAs were to strike.
