Relating to the Censure of Amit Digambar Ranade

WHEREAS Amit Digambar Ranade, Student Regent of the University of Washington, deliberately misled and deceived the students of the University of Washington in interviews with students regarding his appointment to the student regent position;

WHEREAS Amit Digambar Ranade, Student Regent of the University of Washington, engaged in an inappropriate manner by accepting employment at Preston, Gates, and Ellis, through his position as student regent and this position serves as a conflict of interest;

WHEREAS Amit Digambar Ranade, Student Regent of the University of Washington, continually supports local control, increasing tuition, and imposing the energy fee, which directly contradicts statements made to students prior to his appointment to serve as student regent and directly contradicts the opinion and needs of his fellow students;

WHEREAS Amit Digambar Ranade's conduct in this matter is unacceptable for a Student Regent of the University of Washington, does demean the institution of student regent as well as the Student Regent himself;

WHEREAS Amit Digambar Ranade fully deserves censure for engaging in such behavior;

WHEREAS future student regents must know that such actions and behaviors are not only unacceptable, but also bears grave consequences, including loss of integrity, trust, and respect;

WHEREAS Amit Digambar Ranade's conduct in this matter has brought shame and dishonor to himself and to the institution of the student regent; and

WHEREAS Amit Digambar Ranade, through his conduct in this matter, has violated the trust of the students of the University of Washington.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON:

THAT the Student Senate does hereby censure Amit Digambar Ranade, Student Regent of the University of Washington, and does condemn his wrongful conduct in the strongest of terms; and

THAT the Student Senate recognizes the gravity of this resolution, and trusts and urges that future senates will recognize the importance of allowing this statement of censure and condemnation to remain intact for all time.
