A Resolution Calling for Numerical Grading

WHEREAS, the grade strike organized by GSEAC/UAW in Spring Quarter, 2001 resulted in thousands of credit / no credit grades where numeric grades should have been given, and;

WHEREAS, many of the credit / no credit grades are still on the transcripts of University of Washington students, and;

WHEREAS, credit / no credit grades fail to properly reflect the time and energy students have devoted to their class work.

WHEREAS, all students who have completed the required course work are entitled to a numerical grade, and;

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON:

THAT the departments and colleges should make every effort to assign an appropriate numerical grade to all students who are registered to receive such a grade for Spring Quarter 2001, and;

THAT upon request by any student the administration provide an unbiased written explanation for the credit / no credit situation, while continuing to make every effort to provide a numerical grade.
