A Resolution Calling for ASUW Observation Status in Unionization Negotiations

WHEREAS: the University of Washingtonās Administration and GSEAC/UAW have been in the process of negotiating a contract, and

WHEREAS: the outcome of such negotiations is of interest to the students of the University of Washington, and

WHEREAS: the inability of the respective groups to reach an agreement during the spring quarter of 2001 manifested itself in the form of a strike which has prevented thousands of undergraduates from receiving numerical grades for their courses, and

WHEREAS: it is a serious concern of students that they receive grades for the classes that they take, and

WHEREAS: the ability of such students to receive their grades is dependent upon the outcome of the aforementioned negotiations,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON:

THAT: the students of the University of Washington support the presence of student observers at unionization negotiations, and

THAT: the students of the University of Washington support such representation to be chosen by vote in the ASUW student senate.
