An Act to Create a New Type of Legislation

WHEREAS, resolutions representing the opinion of the students at the University of Washington must pass the Board of Directors to take effect, and;

WHEREAS, some resolutions may only reflect the opinion of the Student Senate and may not be appropriate as reflecting the opinion of the students as a whole, and;

WHEREAS, such a mechanism does not currently exist.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON STUDENT SENATE:

THAT, the ASUW Student Senate Rules be amended as follows, as adding a new section under Rule III, Sec 2:

E. Organic Resolution
An Organic Resolution shall be any legislation reflecting the Senate as a whole, but not appropriate to reflect the opinion of students generally. All Organic Resolutions shall include the words: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON STUDENT SENATE THAT:.

THAT, the ASUW Student Senate Rules be amended as follows under Rule III:

Insert 'Organic Resolution,' in Sec. 2 A, after 'Organic Act,';

Insert 'OR,' in Sec. 4, after 'R,';

Insert 'Organic Resolution,' in Sec. 11 A, after 'Organic Act,'.
