A Resolution in Support of Adding Career Advising to all Academic Department Advising Offices, as well as Undergraduate Advising

WHEREAS the primary goal of attending college is to become an independent learner and an educated person who can contribute to the betterment of society through one’s career of choice; and, 
 


WHEREAS finding and attaining a career of choice is a crucial part of attending college; and,
 



WHEREAS choosing a major and a career are intrinsically related; and, 
 
 


WHEREAS academic and career advising are not consistently offered together; and, 
 
 


WHEREAS the tools of The Career Center, Exploratory Advising and the University of Washington’s Alumni Association’s Career Services can provide academic advisers with tools and resources to help with career advising; therefore 
 


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON:

THAT the tools of The Career Center, Exploratory Advising and the University of Washington’s Alumni Association’s Career Services be utilized by academic advisers as tools and resources to help with career advising; and, 
 


THAT the ASUW believes career advising should be a component in all campus academic advising departments; and, 



THAT academic advisers be encouraged to direct students to the University of Washington Alumni Association's Husky Career Network and Husky Jobs; and, 



THAT a copy of this legislation be sent to President Emmert, Provost Wise, Undergraduate Academic Advising, and the Undergraduate Academic Advising Council, Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences Ana Mari Cauce.
