An Act Revising Committee Membership

WHEREAS Article VII. Section 3, part B. 1. of the Senate Bylaws reads “1. Each Senator shall be assigned to one (1) Legislative Standing Committee and one (1) Non-Legislative Standing Committee;” and

WHERAS before this year Senators were in one committee instead of two but changes to committee structure went into effect at the end of Session XV after the passage of O.A.-15-1 and O.A.-15-2; and

WHEREAS Committees have less time than in previous years to accomplish the same amount of work; and

WHEREAS Senate Leadership has the goal of building community through committees; and

WHEREAS the current Committee structure limits the amount of work accomplished in Committees and hinders the goal of building community within Senate; therefore

BE IT ENACTED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON STUDENT SENATE:

THAT Article VII, Section 3, part B. 1. of the ASUW Student Senate Bylaws be amended to read “Each Senator shall be assigned to either a Legislative Standing Committee or a Non-Legislative Standing Committee”; and

THAT the Committee Chairs and Vice-Chairs shall remain in the committees in which they hold their leadership positions; and

THAT Senators are to fill out new Committee request sheets; and

THAT this change be effective beginning March 2nd, 2010.
