An Resolution in Support of Photo Class List WHEREAS, being at a University with over 40,000 students, it can be difficult for teaching staff to het to know their students; and WHEREAS, presently five out of the ten Pac 10 schools have a photo database of their students that is available to their teaching staff, which includes UCLA, Cal, and Sanford; and WHEREAS, currently many departments such as Biology already maintain a database of their student photo that are available to their teaching staffs; and WHEREAS, photo class lists help teaching staff learn the names of their students, which will be a step in promoting a greater sense of community among the students and staffs; and WHEREAS, studies have been done showing that students' undergraduate experience at the universities greatly enhance with a sense of community; and WHEREAS, it is important for a class list of faculty and staff be available to student, so both sides can begin the process of building a University community; and WHEREAS, such a system has already undergone early stages of implementation; therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON: THAT, the Associated Students of the University of Washington supports the University's effort in providing a photo class lists as an option to all teaching staff of their students, THAT, a similar list of faculty and staff photos be available to their students, THAT, the photo class list will be held to the same sensitivity as the information available currently to teaching staff such as student number, THAT, students, faculty, and staff should be given the ability to opt out of having their photo included in a photo list, THAT, the Department of Biology should be commended for its initial work in pioneering the use of photo class lists at the University of Washington, THAT, that a copy of this resolution be forward to Todd Mildon (University Registrar), Mary Pat Wenderoth (Chair of Faculty Council on Instructional Quality), David Lowell (Chair of Faculty Senate) History of Legislation 02/20/2009: Submitted for consideration |
