A Resolution in Support of the 2008 Housing Master Plan

WHEREAS

On March 20th 2008, University of Washington Housing and Food Services (HFS) presented a Master Housing Plan to the University of Washington Board of Regents; and

WHEREAS

This plan includes the renovation of existing resident halls and the addition of 5 new apartments and residents halls; and

WHEREAS

Initial estimates for the cost of this plan is $850 million dollars; and

WHEREAS

HFS plans on paying for this plan by raising the cost of living in the residents halls; and

WHEREAS

Vast numbers of future UW students will be impacted by this plan; and

WHEREAS

It is the responsibility of the Student Senate to formulate official student opinion on issues affecting students; Therefore

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON:

THAT the ASUW supports the 2008 Housing Master Plan; and

THAT we commend HFS and staff for putting together the plan; and

THAT upon passage of this resolution the Student Senate will attach a document citing the reasons for passing the resolution; and

THAT upon passage of this resolution the minutes of the debate of this resolution be attached; and

THAT upon affirmation by the ASUW Board of Directors, The Director of Community Relations Anttimo Bennett make every effort to publicize this resolution; and

THAT upon the completion of both attached items, a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Director of Housing and Food Services Paul Brown, President Mark Emmert, Vice Provost for Student Life Eric Godfrey, and UW Regents Stanley H. Barer, Herb Simon, Kristianne Blake,Jeffrey H. Brotman, Craig W. Cole, Williams H. Gates, Sally Jewel, Frederick C. Kiga, Erin Lennon, and Constance L. Proctor.
