A Resolution in Support of a Campus Food Nutrition Website WHEREAS, in Fall 2007, Purdue University Residences launched an online service, NetNutrition, that allows students to calculate their exact nutritional intake from meals eaten at five university dining courts [2]; and WHEREAS, this web site allows diners to click on menu items they consumed and in what quantity. Once entered, they receive instantaneous nutritional feedback, including the amount of consumed calories, fat, carbohydrates, cholesterol and protein. The software also calculates what percentage of the recommended daily allowance of each nutrient has been consumed. [2]; and WHEREAS, NetNutrition received at least 350 hits its first day online [2]; and WHEREAS, not everyone knows what proper serving sizes are; and WHEREAS, each self-serve station in the dining courts at Purdue has been labeled with photographs of everyday items to further help students identify a proper serving size [2]. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON: THAT, the ASUW commends Purdue for their efforts to provide nutritional information for anyone eating campus foods; and THAT, the ASUW is in support of the creation of a similar program at the University of Washington; and THAT, copies of this resolution be forwarded to Eric Godfrey [Vice Provost for Student Life] Paul Brown [HFS Director], David Dugdale [Hall Health Director], Lauren Sterling [Student Health Consortium Director], Jenny Hahn [ASUW Director of FAAA], and the Student Representatives on the Hall Health Advisory Board.
