Associated Students of the University of Washington
Student Senate
Session 10

A Resolution in Support of the Equal Application of the Law

WHEREAS The Second Amendment guarantees "the right to bear arms," and;

WHEREAS The State of Washington has interpreted that to mean you have the right to carry a gun with a valid permit, and;

WHEREAS The Regents, through the WAC, enacted a restriction on citizens' possession of guns on campus with a valid permit (WAC 478-124-020), and;

WHEREAS The Vice President of Student Affairs is authorized to make exceptions to this rule, but does so only very rarely.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON:

THAT we favor students who have a valid state issued permit being allowed to carry guns on campus, and;

THAT we encourage the Vice President of Student Affairs to develop a clear standard that will allow more students with valid state issued permits to carry their guns on campus, and;

THAT students are requested not to bring concealed weapons to school out of respect for other students.
