Get Involved!
Welcome to the ASUW Student Senate! If you're a new or potential senator, this is a good place to find the most important information about how to get involved in Senate. There are several ways you can become a member. The first is through a Registered Student Organization (RSO). RSOs are given the opportunity to apply for a seat in the Student Senate. RSOs then select a member of their organization to represent their interests in Senate. To find out if your RSO has a seat in Senate, click here . The second is through your residential organization. Every residence hall is allotted a certain number of seats in Senate by the Residence Hall Student Associate (RHSA). Contact your dorm's hall council or attend an RHSA meeting to find out about the election/appointment process. Members of the Greek system can get involved via Panhellenic or IFC, both of which have representatives in Senate. Commuter students who live off-campus can also get involved by stopping by the ASUW office and picking up an application or applying online at www.asuw.org/senapp.
Once elected, senators are expected to attend meetings every Tuesday at 5:00PM in HUB 310. All senators are assigned to a committee in which they review and vote on various pieces of legislation. Following committee meetings, the general Senate session usually lasts until approximately 7PM.
If you have any further questions, please see the About Senate and Info and Resources pages. The Senate Handbook gives a more detailed description of Senate procedures and guidelines. Remember, all of our meetings are open to the public, so if you have any questions or are just curious about what goes on at a Senate meeting, please stop by and say hello to the Senate officers. Senate meets every Tuesday night at 5:00PM in HUB 310. We would love to see you there!
