The ASUW Student Senate welcomes you.
Senate Liaisons
Article IV: Powers And Functions, Section 3, Parts E - G establishes a number of liaison positions to
be filled by the Senate by active Senators. These liaisonships provide a vital conduit between the Senate and the other
entities of the ASUW. The Senate selects these liaisons at the begining of the year through
the nomination and election procedure. Liaisons attend all meetings of their assignments, participate
as full members with a vote (with the notable exception of the BOD liaison) and report back to the
Senate.
Liaison Responsibilities
Not all liaisonships require an equal amount of commitment. Some committees meet every week all year
round, while others meet only once a month or less. Additionally, not all require regular reports to
the Senate, only when the information is important. However, after every meeting liaisons must send a
brief report in writing to the Chair. These reports will be made available to any Senate member who
wishes to review them.
Liason Reports
Senate Liaisons to ASUW committees are asked to periodically submit reports to the Senate about their committee.

Governing Rules - Rule X: Senate Liaisons
Section 1. Appointment of Senate Liaisons
A. The Senate shall appoint one Senate member to act as a liaison to each ASUW Standing Committee and any other committee or organization as authorized except the Governance Committee, the EAC, and Student Senate. In the situation where the committee has open membership, multiple Senators may be appointed provided those Senators agree to have a single representative to Senate.
B. Liaison appointments shall be made at the beginning of the regular session no later than the fourth meeting of Senate. If at any time or for any reason there is an unfilled liaison position, the Senate shall hold nominations and appoint a replacement liaison at the next Senate meeting.
C. An Organic Act shall finalize the selection of liaisons after the appointments and this shall be considered a privileged motion.
Section 2. Duties and Responsibilities
A. All liaisons must attend all meetings of their assigned committee. In the case that they are unable to attend a meeting they may send a proxy in their place upon notification of the Senate Chair. No more than two proxies per quarter may be allowed.
B. Liaisons will submit a liaison report to the Senate Chair no later than one week after their assigned committee meeting. The reports will be made available to all members of Senate.
C. Liaisons must attend no less that 80% of all Senate meetings per year. Excused absences will count against attendance for the purposes of assessing completion of liaisons duties and responsibilities.
D. Liaisons will give a report before Senate at the request of the Chair on matters of importance. These reports shall take place immediately after the Chairâs Report on the agenda. These reports need not appear on the agenda to be in order unless they are prescribing a legislative action.
E. While acting as liaisons, members are bound to the decisions of Senate. In an absence of previous Senate decisions, the Senate Chair will provide copies of pertinent legislation to better gauge the will of Senate.
Section 3. Procedure for Removal of Liaisons
A. If a liaison fails to complete any of the prescribe duties or responsibilities, they may be removed by the following process.
B. An Organic Act listing the specific duties or responsibilities that have not been completed shall be submitted for consideration and requesting the removal of the member from the liaison position.
C. The Chair shall notify the specified liaison that an Organic Act for Removal has been submitted and that they may present their defense before the Steering Committee. This notification must be in writing and must be provided to the specified liaison at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled Steering meeting.
D. The Steering Committee shall consider the Organic Act and all relevant evidence; this may include testimony from the sponsor of the Organic Act and the liaison in question. The Steering Committee shall either:
1. Concur with the Organic Act and pass it onto the Senate for a vote at the next Senate Meeting
2. Amend the reasons for removal and pass it onto the Senate for a vote at the next Senate Meeting
3. Fail the Organic Act in its entirety.
E. The Senate retains the right to resurrect, by a majority vote, any Organic Act removing a Senate Liaison.
F. The Organic Act, once before the Senate, shall be in order before all other Orders of the Day. Debate about the Organic Act shall be limited to the reasons listed in the Organic Act for why the liaison has failed to fulfill their duties or responsibilities.
G. Upon majority approval of the Organic Act the liaison shall be removed from the position.
H. Once the liaison has been removed the Chair shall open nominations for the vacant liaison. The previously removed liaison may not be nominated at this time, although they may be nominated for other liaison positions or subsequent vacancies of their previous liaisons position.
